The Art of People Pleasing

They put you in a box,

And in that box you have to stay,

Don’t say a word,

It’s safer that way,

Wear what they wish,

And always color in the lines,

Staying between their perfect idea of society,

Only wear makeup to cover up what they don’t want to find,

Be quiet,

But shout the answer you’ve been told,

The box is big enough so invite a few,

But only those that are allowed to speak with you,

Use your imagination,

They’ll even give you crayons,

But wait,

They’ll tell you how to paint before you ever get to,

And you’ll do as they ask,

Tucked in your box,

Afraid of displeasing their oh so selfish hearts,

Because you can’t imagine ever feeling like their disappointed in you.
